Whether it's a plane full of passengers or cargo – as a Flight Operations Manager, you ensure that the flight runs smoothly. You make sure that the staffing for the terminal operations is right and make sure that the expenses do not exceed the budget. You will also develop standard operating and working practices. In critical situations with passengers, cargo or employees, you use your extensive knowledge to find the best solutions.
As Ground Operations Manager, you will lead your own team and set priorities for ramp, fleet, customer service and baggage handling. You develop strategies, analyse processes and re-evaluate situations as needed to drive progress and achieve operational goals. You never lose sight of safety, punctuality and compliance with regulations, and you look after the interests of the workforce.
In this position, you are responsible for the flight plan. You are actively involved in the design of the route network and align it to maximise profits. To do this, you keep an eye on international developments and identify market potential long in advance. You remove uneconomical connections from the programme and thus ensure a healthy cash flow. The perfectly timed take-off and landing windows are all thanks to your excellent calculations.
Study model and prices for the Bachelor's online study programme in Aviation Management
Depending on your personal or professional situation, full-time study is not always easy to manage. That is why we have also developed part-time programmes for all our degrees, which offer flexible and longer study periods. This way, you can study alongside your job or during your time off, whether at home or abroad. The content of the different models is identical. Depending on the study model, we will adjust your tuition fees accordingly. With the part-time variants, your weekly study workload is reduced.
Can't finish your degree in the allotted time? No problem! We will develop the right study model for everyone. If you realise that you need more time, you can easily switch to another study model with three months’ notice before the end of the month. These are our different study models:

If you have your A-levels or a vocational diploma, you can start your bachelor’s programme right away without additional examination.
Graduates of Waldorf schools and the “Berufskolleg Baden-Württemberg” may have to have their diploma approved by their school and show proof of additional achievements to be able to study in another federal state. Please contact your school for an approval.
You can also study at IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) without a high school diploma. To do so, you simply need:
- A master craftsman's certificate or
- Advanced professional training (e.g. as an IHK business administrator) or
- At least two years of recognized vocational training in Germany, followed by at least 3 years of professional experience (full-time)*: Depending on the focus of your training and professional activity and what you want to study, you can start directly with a trial phase or prove your aptness in other ways.
*If you have completed your vocational training and professional experience within Europe, but outside of Germany, the university will carry out an equivalency assessment. EU qualifications can be accepted as equivalent if your vocational qualification is comparable to a German vocational qualification at level DQR 4.
For the English-language study programme, we require proof of your English language skills. We accept the following:
- TOEFL (min. 80 points) or
- IELTS (min. Level 6) or
- Duolingo English test (min. 95 points) or
- Cambridge Certificate (min. grade B)
Please note: The proof must be submitted before the start of the study programme and must not be older than five years. If you have already completed your first degree in English or if English is your native language, you no longer need to prove your English language skills separately.
