As Germany's largest private online university, we have more than 25 years of experience in guiding you through your studies. And because the quality of your chosen study programme is close to our hearts, all our programmes are state-approved and system-accredited.
IU International University is a state-approved and accredited university. The recognition confirms the high quality of both the study programmes and the teaching. In addition, we make sure that content is always adapted to the latest standards. With success, as our awards, accreditations and certifications show.
IU has been re-accredited by the German Academic Council for five years.
The German Academic Council has been advising the federal and state governments on issues of higher education development, academia and research since 1957. In doing so, it also has the task of ensuring the quality of teaching and research at non-state universities.
IU International University is system-accredited. The higher education institution can thus – in accordance with the legally defined quality standards – independently accredit new study programmes and react to the demands of the market without any loss of quality.

All study programmes of IU International University of Applied Sciences are accredited before the start of your studies and bear the seal of the accreditation council. The process of accreditation documents that the study programmes meet all quality requirements concerning formal and content-related aspects of a study programme. Their fulfilment confirms the required level of study and the comparability of the study programmes on a national and international level.
IU is licensed as a provider under the law on employment promotion. The Hanseatic Certification Agency (HZA) confirms in its multi-stage audit procedure that the IU's quality assurance system meets the requirements laid down in the German Social Code (SGB III) and the Accreditation and Licensing Ordinance – Employment Promotion (AZAV). This certification entitles IU to offer further training to interested parties with an activation and placement voucher. The prerequisite for this is that all admission requirements for further education are fulfilled by the interested party.
IU is institutionally accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat, WR). This accreditation confirms that IU meets the required quality standards in teaching, research, organisation, and governance. It serves as independent proof of the institution's quality and capability.
The accreditation also underlines IU's state recognition. As a state-recognised institution, IU is authorised to award academic degrees that comply with legal requirements and are recognised both nationally and internationally. Accreditation by the WR is therefore an important quality seal, demonstrating IU's compliance with high scientific and academic standards.
