Programme overview
The focus of the study programme is on imparting practice-oriented knowledge as well as skills in the field of Business and IT. The teaching content of the programme is structured according to the recommended 4-pillar model of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI). It includes the disciplines of Fundamental Economics, Business Informatics, Foundation Computer Science and other basics, each of which makes up about 25% of the curriculum.
The Foundation Computer Science subjects include courses such as Requirements Engineering, the basics of Object-Oriented Programming with Java, Data Modelling and Database Systems, as well as programming industrial information systems with Java EE. Foundation Economics includes the areas of Financing and Investment, Transaction and Cost Accounting, Purchasing, Procurement and Distribution, as well as Marketing. In the field of Business Informatics, you deal with IT and ERP systems, Data Analytics, Big Data and IT Project Management. You will also receive an introduction to Process Management. In terms of additional basics, you will acquire knowledge in Statistics, Collaborative Work, IT Law and Organisational Behaviour, for example. In addition, you take three elective courses (10 ECTS each) with at least one module from the computer science elective and one module from the business informatics elective.
Our Bachelor's online study programme is modular, i.e. you study based on subject areas that are divided into so-called modules. After successfully completing the modules, you will be credited with ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System), which document your achievements. These ECTS points are internationally comparable and, of course, recognised.

Career prospects with the Bachelor of Business and IT

Almost all economic processes are closely linked to IT systems. Due to advancing digitalisation, the demand for IT professionals – especially with business administration skills – is, therefore, consistently high. Depending on your choice of elective module, you will be ideally prepared for a role as a expert or manager after graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems: for example, in software development, business analysis or process management and IT consulting. This opens up excellent prospects for you in various sectors of the economy. These include start-ups and technology companies that act as providers of IT solutions, as well as the user companies that deploy them. You can also start your career at a consulting firm or work in public administration. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to work as an independent entrepreneur.
