IU distance learning allow you to study according to your own plan: you complete your courses at your pace and can access them anytime via your online campus. Just like our innovative IU Learn app, it offers you smart tools for any study type. So you can study just the way that suits you and your needs: day or night, on the way to work or on the beach, by yourself or together with others.
From enrolment to graduation
Thanks to our flexible full- and part-time models, you can structure your studies completely flexibly and according to your needs. At the same time, our study coaches, tutors and lecturers are by your side over the entire course of your studies and support you wherever you need help.
Starting your studies
Once you have chosen a study programme, you can apply via our online form. We will send you an e-mail with your login data for the online campus so you can start on your desired starting date. Please submit your documents (university entrance qualification, reports, CV etc.) as soon as possible before or after starting. Once we have received them, we will review them and complete your enrolment. We will issue your student ID and you will be able to take exams.

Planning your term
You decide what your term will look like: organise it according to our pre-structured plans or independently according to your personal preferences. Simply book your courses online and choose whether you want to take one course after the other or several at the same time.
Your courses
Every course includes innovative study materials. In addition, you can count on the support of an experienced lecturer to answer all your questions within 48 hours. If you want, you have the option of taking part in interactive lectures to deepen your knowledge together with your lecturers and fellow students. Whenever you’re ready, you can register for your exam and sit it either online or at an IU location close to you.
Personal support
IU distance learning allow for maximum flexibility while giving you all the support you need. Our registrar’s office is happy to answer any questions regarding the organisation of your studies. Concerning your courses, your lecturers and tutors are always here for you. If you need help planning your studies, talk to your study coaches who are happy to support you in the short or long term concerning questions such as time management or studying strategies. In addition, your network of fellow students has got your back: you can connect with them at any time via our online campus or Microsoft Teams.

Flexible exams
In your IU distance learning, you can sit your exams online – whenever you feel best prepared: 24/7, 365 days a year. Don’t like online exams? No problem! Just sit your exams at one of more than 45 exam centres in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Final dissertation
You complete your studies by writing your final dissertation. In turn, you receive your state-approved Bachelor’s or Master’s degree certificate and report. Congratulations: You have completed an important step in developing your potential – professionally and personally!
You can try out your study programme for one month – no commitment. The fees for this period only apply if you decide to continue your studies with us.
