This data protection declaration informs you about the processing of your personal data in connection with participation in the survey and the competition as well as the use of this website and the functionalities made available via it (the latter hereinafter collectively referred to as the "website").


I. Data controller
IU Internationale Hochschule GmbH, Mülheimer Straße 38, 53604 Bad Honnef ("IU") is responsible for data processing in connection with the survey, participation in the competition and use of the website. The IU has appointed Dr. Annette Demmel, SPB DPO Services GmbH, Unter den Linden 21,10117 Berlin, annette.demmel@spb-dpo-services.com, as data protection officer.


II. Categories of data

1. Use of the website: IU processes the following categories of data on the occasion of your use of the website:

Log data, such as your IP address including details of our website requests, such as date and time, status and amount of data transferred, information about the browser you are using (browser type and version number), details of the website from which you accessed our website. IU stores this data in a log file each time a page is accessed. Without further additional information, such as information from an Internet provider about the connection owner, which the IU does not usually have and without concrete cause, such as a suspicion of the existence of a violation of the law, IU is not able to assign this data to individual, identifiable persons.

Cookies to expand the range of functions of the website and make it more convenient for you to use. These are small text files that are stored on your computer as soon as you access our website. A cookie regularly contains the name of the domain from which the cookie data was sent as well as information about the age of the cookie and an alphanumeric identifier. Most of the cookies used by IU are deleted from your hard drive at the end of the browser session (session cookies). In addition, IU uses so-called permanent cookies that remain on your terminal device in order to recognise you the next time you visit the website. In the event that you wish to enter our prize draw, we may also recognise you using such a cookie to ensure that each entrant only enters once in order to keep the chances of winning equal and fair. You have the option of preventing cookies from being stored on your terminal device by changing the settings in your browser accordingly.


2. Survey: IU uses the following categories of data when you participate in the survey:
IU collects your first name, last name and e-mail address when you participate in our survey and provide us with this data. The provision of your personal data is necessary as we store your answers to your student profile and use them as described under III. 2.


3. Competition: IU collects the following categories of data when you participate in the competition:

III. Purpose and legal basis of the processing

1. Use of the website: Your personal data is processed for the purpose of enabling you to use the website, to prevent and remedy website malfunctions, and to optimise it with regard to user behaviour. The legal basis for this processing is an agreement on the use of our website and our legitimate interest in its trouble-free operation, in accordance with Art. 6 (1) Sentence 1 Letter b and Art. 6 (1) Sentence 1 Letter f of the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR")


2. Survey participation: We process the data mentioned under point II. 2 in order to be able to advise you on decisions in the context of your studies. The legal basis is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) Sentence 1 Letter a GDPR, which you can revoke at any time with effect for the future.


3. Competition: If you take part in our competition, we will process your personal data to enable you to participate. The legal basis here is also Art. 6 (1) Sentence 1 Letter b GDPR.


IV. recipients
Only employees of IU who are responsible for the technical administration, maintenance and further development of the website, as well as employees who manage the website or the survey and the competition, have access to your personal data. In addition, IU employs external IT service companies to maintain its IT systems, which may have access to your personal data in the course of their activities. In this context, it may happen that employees of the hosting provider of the survey, which is offered on www.unipark.com, a web offer of QuestBack GmbH, gain access to your personal data.


V. Transmission
IU will not transfer your personal data to a third country outside the EU. Any other transmission will only take place if IU is obliged to do so by law or by the authorities or if the transmission is necessary in the context of your use of the website. A copy of the standard contractual clause on data protection, by means of which the transfer is secured, can be obtained by sending a request to datenschutz@iu.org.


VI. How long will your personal data be stored?
Personal data will be deleted as soon as the purpose of the processing no longer exists.


1. Use of the website:

Session cookies are deleted as described in section II. 1 as soon as you end your session.


2. Survey:

We store personal data obtained in connection with your participation in the survey for a period of four years from the date of participation and delete it thereafter.


3. Competition: We store personal data that we have received in connection with your participation in our competition for a period of 1 year from the date of participation and delete it thereafter.


VII. Your rights
You may contact IU either in writing or by e-mail at datenschutz@iu.org to exercise the following rights:

  • Access to your data in order to check and verify it,

  • Obtain a copy of your personal data,

  • Rectification, erasure or restriction of processing, this includes the right to complete otherwise incomplete or inaccurate data by way of supplementary communication,

  • Right to lodge an objection to its processing; you can receive your provided data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and transfer this data to another data controller, provided you have given consent to the processing or the processing is based on a contract.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in connection with the processing of your personal data.


VIII Why is your personal data collected?
IU needs your personal data to carry out the survey and the competition or to enable you to use the website. You have the option to refrain from providing your personal data or to provide incomplete information to IU. However, this may result in IU not being able to allow you to participate in the survey or competition or to use the website at all or in full. Furthermore, this may result in us not being able to process or respond to a contact request accordingly.


IX. Automated decision-making and profiling
Your personal data will not be used by IU for automated decision-making. Likewise, IU will not create profiles from your personal data. The evaluation of your user behaviour by means of Google Analytics is carried out after shortening the IP address, so that an assignment to the person is no longer possible.
